I’m such a mood reader that I currently have 9 books in my “currently reading” (do not look up the definition of currently).

Since I'm still procrastinating "Choices" (okay, actually I'm still healing from the severe heartbreak it caused) I read „Quite like us“ and "blue and yellow skies" by @alarainai and „salmon_says“. For those of you who need and love (somewhat fluffy) Jegulus AUs these might be it.

Quite like us (67k): The story is placed in the real world, like without magic at all. James is a physiotherapist and Regulus studies to become a veterinarian. They make contact via a text message from James that was meant to be send to Sirius. They don't know who the other person is but start a conversation nonetheless. It may sound a little odd at first but I really liked how different it was. Especially since the first part is almost exclusively written as text messages. But yeah - check it out. It’s a really nice short fanfiction! Also it hit a little too close to home when some teen angst was discussed. But I sirius-ly loved how they chose to deal with it and "solve" the issues. Know your worth you lovely people!

Blue and Yellow Skies (142k): Okay this one is an AU where Regulus and James are both professional Quidditch players. It's rivals-to-lovers and was executed perfectly (imho). They managed to capture James and Regulus so well. While Regulus has some a lot unresolved feelings, James is just..well he's James. He's utterly, idiotically and irrevocably in love with Regulus. So you bet it's an utter mess when they find themselves in a fake relationship with the press and public constantly in their faces. This story deals with some sirius issues as well. I think the bottom line is that it's okay to set boundaries because you can't fix another person. It's not your job and you shouldn't let them run around hurting you. There comes a point where you have to choose yourself in order to survive. But then, there is always two sides. And it's okay to take some time to heal and ask for forgiveness. Also Rosekiller is a definite plus for this work of art!

so, yes, i would absolutely, no questions asked, recommend Time and Tide. but this fic is not my typical dramione fic rec whatsoever. at 10 chapters and under 30k words, it is pretty short, so there's no slowburn there. their relationship builds pretty quickly, but not abruptly. hermione being a selkie is one of the biggest story points in this fic, which i loved. i don't feel like i see many creature!hermione fics, honestly. the most notable feature of this fic, though, is just the writing itself. i mean, it's beautiful. you can absolutely tell the author is a seasoned and talented writer. for a short fic, the characterization is great and the entire time i was practically screaming, "PLEASE WORK OUT PLEASE GET SAFE PLEASE BE HAPPY" at my kindle.

also, for the record, there are two endings to this fic. one is HEA, but one is not. both contain smut. i read both because of course i did. the non-HEA version felt a little rushed and...underbaked? i don't love criticizing the work that amazing fic authors do for free, but it is worth noting. if you are going to read one ending, i highly suggest the HEA one, not just for your own mental health, but also for the story. the HEA one isn't even totally HEA, so the edginess is still present!

Guys. I think this is the best fanfiction I have ever read. It felt more canon than the actual 5th book. Dear god I wish this could be canon. Here are the details; main ship: drarry. Rating: teen. Content warnings: blood, self inflicted wounds for rituals, bullying. Word count: 222,435

I don’t even know where to start. Ok, Harry has a relationship with the dark arts in this fic. It’s basically what influences him to accept being resorted into Slytherin. The author invites a beautiful sub-lore to the fandom. And believe me when I say it is well described and detailed. The author does an amazing job explaining Slytherin prejudice and wizards hatred of the dark arts. It’s si profound because it’s never touched on in the books cause JKR kinda hated Slytherins herself. It’s just amazing what this author does for the slytherins. They handle pure blood prejudice very well and show the house as willing to grow and change. Overall, the dark and misrepresented slytherins and given their time to shine in this book.

Ok now Drarry! I wanted mooorrreee. This was the slowest slow burn I’ve ever read. And honestly that’s because the relationship wasn’t the main focus of the fic. In all honestly the main ship should’ve been Harry/ Dark Magic. That was the main cultivating relationship with drarry being minor. But it was still very very well done. Extraordinary. I suppose it’s good that it was a super slow burn because it fit the mood of the fic very well. Harry has to adapt to being in slytherin and being able to trust his peers, so it only makes sense that it takes a long time for him to cultivate a relationship with Draco. But it ends really well.

The plot of this fic is just astounding. Take the entire Order of the Phoenix and warp it to Slytherin Harry Potter and that’s this fic. Including the length and the detail. It was so moving I feel like I can’t even properly articulate it.

All I have to say is read it. That’s it. This is my favorite piece of HP fanfic I’ve ever read. Please, if you want to read a long fic, read this one. 10/10. I recommend to anyone in the HP fandom who needs more of the books without JK’s Slytherin prejudice. This is an amazing piece of literature.

All of her work is great and stand out on their own merits - but I come back to these when I need a really good laugh because she really understands those awkward early teen years so well.

FloreatCastellum has retired from fanfiction to pursue original works, but her backlog is extensive, interesting and engaging. Order of Mercy - by MandyinKC

I'm very past due to reread this - she started posting this on FFN when I was teaching in South Korea and I remember reading the updates in the evening before bed. It's a fantastic take on another prospective on the last book and probably did play a part in my own writing. This is one of the best takes on an alternate prospective of Deathly Hallows from the shared prospectives of Bill, Fleur, Percy and Audrey as they form their own small resistance group.

This is the fic that made me appreciate the first person prospective and showed me what kind of strong character voice that can offer. The way Audrey is written here is fantastic, she's quiet, observant and is going through her very quiet life as it begins to shift through meeting new people. The story is not overwhelmed by an intense narrative, it's a quiet day to day sort of story. This is one of the primary inspirations for the POV for One for Sorrow and its early tone before the madness set in. I will drop everything I'm doing if I get word of an update or new publication.

I know this fandom has taken off in recent years and has a lot of good fics, I don't have time to go through them all these days but I can recommend this one with confidence as a long, extended epilogue to book 3 of the series from the prospective of the elderly housekeeper as she ends up in a web of well-meaning secrets between her employers. It's very well written, very funny and a reminder that all secrets come out eventually.

Daddy Long Legs - Jean Webster

This is one of the finest epistolary novels. It's short and covers about four years of Judy Abbott's life as a college student paid for by an unknown benefactor. This book is a product of its times in regards to race and class politics of the era. If that's not something you want to go through, that's fine, some kind soul has rewritten the novel for modern sensibilities and has lost none of what made the original novel so endearing.

Okay, quick background I have read and listened to a many Dramione. I don't consider myself an all knowing, but I have some over analyzed thoughts on this subject.

I am not done listening to this story. This is subject to change possibly....

Let's begin..

Isolation is considered a top tier dramonie fanfiction. I am currently listening to the story and understand that may not allow me to dive into it as much as I would like.

I have the thus far considered the story ...... interesting but not inciting.

Ranking key points. On Chapter 27 right now.

PLOT: picks up after HBP (half-blood prince) Hermione does not go on the quest for the horcrux instead stays to help Hogwarts. Ron and harry go off send her owl every fortnight, Hedwig is not dead nor Moody eye. The events of that night never happen. Professor Snape shows up with Draco Malfoy looking for somewhere to hide him. Snape did kill Dumbledore and Malfoy did let in the death eaters so he is considered partially responsible. McGonagall task Hermonie to take in Draco in her dorm as prefect she has a dorm with 2 rooms. He can't leave so Isolation. They live like that for a while and eventually begin a sexual and emotional relationship. Around January the ministry is taken the death eaters are going to Hogwarts to get all the muggle born wizards. Here is when Hermione and Draco get separated. He gets sent to his Andromeda Tonks and she to her daughter Nymphadora Tonks. so far--

Smut.... good. The smuts good I definitely think that really helps in the overall rating. In order to have a well written fan fiction the fantasy of a good fuck is paramount. That being said the over all tone of when they did the deed varied. He NEEDS her. He listens to her soothing noises when she showers. They do it to vent yet it does become this sweet thing that they can cherish. They also have many sweet moments. Personally them reading together is sooo cute. ughhh shakespare. omg.

Hermione's depth. unfortunately, I have not yet experienced the power of this character. She lacks something of self-driven force. she was never the most confident person but in this version she withers at the hands of Draco. Leaving a bad taste. I did appreciate the MLK bit when she's trying to convince Draco of the 'mud blood' word basically being racist. I don't really feel like Shes helping in the war effort much. She has literally only read books. This is halfway through may change. AT this point we will see if their affection for each other goes beyond being stuck together.

DRACO is a fun character to analyze he changes so much depending on the story. THIS IS A TOXIC MANNNNN. He is cussing everyone out Hermione, McGonagall, himself. I don't love that every other word he says is Fuck. fucking. Hell. It lacks the sophistication of noble born pure breed wizard that's all I'm saying. IT IS REFREASHING to SEE Draco Malfoy be in need. He needs Hermione beyond his eventual attraction, he needs her to keep himself from going crazy and not give him up to death eat. He is forced to trust her well before she ever really has to trust him truly. I dislike how difficult it is for him to truly consider having given up the death eater life. He grapples with it; I get that he does not throw off everything has learned. But he doesn't on his on consider that being force into isolation because he couldn't kill Dumbledore. Might be that moment he realizes ' oh I don't want to do this. ' Hermione' Is cramming that done his throat making it feel just forces. HE also yells at he a lot in the first bit to leave him alone.

WE have nooooo ron or harry still.

we got luna and blaze, that intro to that was the sweetest thing thus far.

The War is progressing in different events.

The story is very English.

Notes: Buckle up for a long, fantastic fic my friends! Lily's Boy is 109 chapters! This focuses a lot on Harry as I'm sure you could guess (Drarry specifically), but Snupin is a huge focal point in this fic and I would not call it background. It's brilliant worldbuilding earn it this February spot!

Summary on AO3: Lying in hospital after the Battle of Hogwarts, Remus Lupin has a lovely lucid dream that he's gone back to his school days at Hogwarts. Only the day passes, then another, and another, and soon he must face the terrifying possibility that it isn't a dream — that he has irreparably altered the events of the past.

Please be advised, this one contains Adult Themes. Just, not so much in the fun flirty way, more in the midlife existential crisis way.

Notes: Primarily following Remus around as he gets transported back in time to his school days?! And how he falls for our lovely Severus Snape while trying not to mess up reality. YOU WILL CRY. Bittersweet ending warning on this one but so worth the read. 33 chapters

Summary on AO3: Summer of 4th year and Harry's all alone, dealing with his grief and the sudden revelation that James Potter is not his father. Support comes in a strange form. The form of Theo Nott, son of a death Eater. A strange friend who says he'll help him find his true father, whoever this Lord Prince might be.

Notes: Back to the long fics; 87 chapters AND this is a part of a currently ongoing series. Sev is actually Harry's father and wow is that a shock to Harry! This fic features Snupin and a Theo/Harry pairing and does a brilliant job focusing on both. Extremely compelling read. Severitius.

🩺 June - Not Quite What the Doctor Ordered by Arionrhod and McKay 🩺

Summary on AO3: Severus Snape is a brilliant diagnostician, but it turns out that Remus Lupin is a very difficult case, in more ways than one.

Notes: I'm not usually one for super AU fics but this one takes the cake. Severus is charactarized fantastically and the story is so very good! This is completely non-magic and the relationship between these two is just chefs kiss! 4 chapters.

Summary on AO3: After the war, Remus thinks that all hope is lost of ever reconnecting with Severus. He may be in for a surprise though.

Notes: So I have this secret extra ranking I call 'The Golden Shelf.' It's the best of the best, and while many of these fics in this list hold that rank, THIS is the fic that inspired me to make that ranking at all. The very first fic on my golden shelf! This takes a look at how Severus and Remus grapple with the past and embrace each other. Charactarization feels real and so spot on. 1 chapter.

Summary on AO3: Ron wants Luna, but Luna wants Ginny, and Ginny wants Harry, and Harry wants Hermione, but Hermione wants Lupin, and Lupin wants… Snape? Oh, what tangled webs we weave, when Dumbledore sets up a little seasonal fun for a group of hormonal teenagers spending their Christmas at Grimmauld Place – with two angsty thirty-somethings who have quite enough of their own problems to be getting on with.

Notes: This was a very long 1 chapter fic that was such a delight to read! The summary doesn't do it justice and I'm not sure that my little notes can either, but please give this a shot! In August like me, or right now; perfect for the holidays! Hilarious misunderstandings and a wonderful ending await you.

Summary on AO3: When Severus Snape banked on being dead at the end of a war, it was as much of a shock as a burden to find out he was very much alive. He'd rather welcome oblivion and be known as a hero, than watch himself become a listless ghost of his former self. He never expected his Life After Death would contain much but living an isolated, quiet, life. Instead he somehow ended up returning to Hogwarts to teach, becoming involved in student affairs he'd rather stay far removed from, and most importantly, having copious amounts of sex with his old childhood enemy- Remus Lupin.

Recovery is a fickle and long road, and he certainly didn't expect his would involve accepting Remus as part of it.

Notes: KALA is an incredible writer in every fic they craft, but this is one of my favorites. As the summary suggests, spice fest! But this is no plotless hotness by any means. Who doesn't love using sex as a distraction from trauma? Wonderfully written 12 chapters.

Snape has an adorable crow friend and has to figure out what the heck is going on at Hogwarts while also pining for Remus. Rumored by BlueSundayCake to be a part of a series! :o 32 chapters.

Summary on AO3: Things hadn’t gone well for Remus Lupin since the end of the war, so he didn’t think he could afford to pass up an unexpected inheritance from someone he’d never met. Of course it turned out there were a few strings attached, including having to share his surprise windfall with Severus Snape. Not that Snape was particularly happy about that...

Notes: It's a 'we have to live together and go on a treasure hunt and now we love each other' fic! Not going to lie, the writing reminds me of a modern day Jane Austin and the story line is so compelling. A little mystery and some great reading! 24 chapters.

Ne'er-Blue-Well by @diandrastrikesbackck was written for a prompt I gave, but it took my usually serious, not a fan of comedy self and had me laughing out loud with a truely genius string of puns said by Severus Snape himself after a potion accident.

I finished reading this story, the first part, yesterday and I must say that it was a great discovery. It's a very interesting What if that investigates what would have happened if Snape had started actively spying for Dumbledore within the Order. He arrives to discover Peter's betrayal in time. Snape is absolutely in character. I found him very credible. He is a tormented, dark boy looking for his place in a world that has trampled him. The relationship with the members of the order is as tense as a violin string. The contempt that James has for him is palpable, as is Severus' difficulty in relating to Lily and little Harry. everything is just perfect.

I have not picked up a book since school started. Fml. Not only am I behind on school work but also my reading goal.

I am still kinda procrastinating "Choices" (you may know this by now, I'm severely heartbroken) (or maybe I'm just not strong enough, who knows) (but I managed to read 2 whole chapters!), so I'm reading other stuff to distract myself. Today I want to talk to you about "Kill Your Darlings" by MesserMoon (@sophsicle) (just because you broke my heart does not mean that I don't absolutely adore your writing style!)

It's a muggle AU where Regulus starts going to college with his brother who was drafted by a Hockey team to be a professional player some time before (I'm not sure about the age difference actually). Regulus on the other hand is studying economics or business or something and had to quit Hockey after Sirius left. What I really loved about this story is the intense discussion about mental health and how we have to look after ourselves. Also Regulus is hands down so fucking funny. I loved him before but I think I love him a little more now (if that is even possible). Also, Remus has a hearing disability and I have to say, I love it. How they "simply" sign and include him in their convos, it's so subtle but still lovingly implemented. As someone who also had a hearing disability (still do to a certain extent) I felt really seen and all warm and fuzzy. Thanks for that, honestly!

Soooo: BIG rec you peeps. If you like muggle AUs and sports fics (you don't have to know anything about hockey, I promise. I didn't know anything but MesserMoon explained everything at the beginning of the chapters! Loved that so much btw) this is for you! Also for me it was a comfort read (I mean, so many things are when you compare stuff with Choices). Still, this story deals with A LOT! So please read the tws and be careful.

I could say so many more things about this story but it always results in one final thing: Go read it, it's soo good!

November Read # 1: Draco Malfoy and The Mortifying Ordeal of Being In Love by isthisselfcare.

I'm so thankful for being able to pick up this as my first read for November. It was definitely such a heartwarming read, full of witty conversations, magical adventures and Draco's long, long quashing.

I just started the Dramoine fic rabbit hole. My first read was Manacled which was also a freaking masterpiece. And I'm lucky to be on streak to have read another Dramoine masterpiece.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

"Draco found that there was love in everything he did."

The fanfiction was decently paced, not fast enough that it lacks the build up and the details but also not slow enough that it bores you. I absolutely love the build up of the character's relationship. The way their dislike fell off from adventure to adventure felt very in rhythm. It made so much sense. Author was not kidding on slow burn and if you are masochist then continue to tread the path.

Hermoine's character was absolutely adoring. Her achievements and her intelligence gave me a few goosebumps. I wished she showed earlier signs of being flustered with Draco but professionalism and being engrossed with her work is in character, I suppose.

Draco, as the main star of the show, was written very well. I appreciate how him quashing and trying to avoid Hermoine as he realizes his feelings didn't leave a bad taste. I often find that in these situations, male characters would resort to shagging or ONS to distract themselves but luckily the fanfiction did no such thing.

The adventures they went to were also very fun and very well thought of. I hope there was an explanation how all the artefacts, the vials of specimens, the skull and etc all tied together to Hermoine's project. Maybe it did and I just missed it? I'm a fast reader and the slow burn was starting to burn me 😂

I might revise this review as I'm just heading to sleep. Much kudos to the author for this amazing fics. And to the artists who provided us the fanarts.
